Help!! SES and Running HOT!

Well last night the SES light came on so I figure no big deal I"ll just shut it off for a minute then restart and it will probly go away. I do this with no avail. So I figure maybe tomorrow morning (today) it will be out, still on. So tonight I was driving for about 30 min (85 degrees outside) and the SES light is on the whole time then I come to a stop and realize the temp is up to about 250! I'm guessing the SES light is telling me something about the cooling system since I have a 160 thermostat and it has NEVER gone above 190 with this thermostat. Opionions would be greatly appriciated, the car will be getting scanned or at least getting a code pulled to figure something out. Thanks.

Re: Help!! SES and Running HOT!

Could be that the fans are not working. Check the fuses. The scan should help.

Shoebox It was the fan actuator fuse. I'm really surpised the SES light came on due to a fuse though, never knew that. Thanks for the help I never would have checked fuses for this.

Re: Help!! SES and Running HOT!

Well, I thought it was fixed...now it just blows fuses every 5 minutes. Its the 10 amp fan/actuator fuse that keeps blowing out. I replace the fuse and the SES goes off and the temp stays perfect...all the sudden the light comes on and the temp steadily climbs. Now what?

Re: Help!! SES and Running HOT!

That fuse powers numerous things:
oxygen sensors
fan relays
reverse lockout and skip shift solenoids (if manual trans)
EVAP solenoid
EGR solenoid

The most common thing is a burned and grounding out O2 wire, if you have headers.

Re: Help!! SES and Running HOT!

Well I checked the O2 wiring and it looks fine, nothing melted and the plastic around the wires isn't even punctured. I put a 15 amp fuse in instead of the 10 amp just to see what happened...at idle the fans came on about 6 times without blowing the fuse so I decided to take it for a drive. After 5 min of driving the fuse blew out again....so this means my fans are drawing to much current correct?
