im having a similar problem myself, i kinda over reved the motor the other night, but had no problems right away. the next day i started it up, let it warm up and it seemed fine, i drove for about 2 blocks and it started knocking relly loud, louder than normal. so i pulled off the valve cover off and the intake valve on the # 7 cylinder was really loose. so i just backed all the rockers off and re adjusted them, and its still kinda ticking louder than normal. could my lifters have taken a dump?

This may sound retarded but on my buddies Camaro he got a tick from a loose spark plug, check that.

Not retarded at all! Happens alot especially w/ those spark plugs that are hard to access. What I've found is using anti-sieze compound works wonders when trying to find if the spark plug is truly seated. When installing them dry you can get a false sense of resistence in thinking the plug is seated all the way to the head either by hand or w/ a wrench.
