Question High Mileage 96 Z28

I recently purchased a California 96 Z28 completely stock except for the clutch and 255 tires, it is an M6 LT1 with Ttops, it's high mileage at 136000 miles but in perfect condition. As soon as our Canadian winter subsides I am going to start driving it

My question is what are some things I should look at doing maintenance wise to ensure it's continued smooth operation, just to see if there's something big or very small I'm not thinking of, it's my first F-body but I do know a fair bit about vehicles. Also there is about an inch of play towards the rear of the driveshaft, but the Ujoint is fine, is this normal? And what's a good spark plug to go with, or should I stick to my Bosch platinum 4+'s?

Greatly appreciate any help! as this seems to be the place to go........

Cheers
Adam

Cool

Welcome to the fold!

136,000 is not a lot of milliage if the car has been taken care of. There are many menbers with cars with much more. Other than keeping the fluids changes there's not much to do. These cars seem to have an apitite for Optisparks (the distributor). They typically last 70-100k and can be costly to replace.

I normally use autolite platnium plugs (personal preferance)

If it hasn't been changed, look very carefully at the waterpump. Also our cars were notorious for a leak at the back of the intake manifold. Put your hand back there and check. I would be very suprised if that had never been done. Ditto on the optispark. Very rare for them to last that long. My car wanted all of the above between 65k and 90k. Other than that, just maintain like any other car and all is good. Mine has 93k and looks like it is only a few years old not a 96. Welcome aboard!

PS save your money cuz it will start to feel slow soon.
