Cool Hot Cam vs. Crane 227 cam

I would like to know which cam will put out the most horsepower and torque. Also, which one has the smoothest idle, best vacuum for power brakes, and streetability. In the future, I am going to rebuild my LT1 engine. My planned mods are MAC headers, SLP CAI, Hooker exhaust, high flow cat, Llloyd Elliot p&p heads using stock valve size, and PCM for less tuning. The specs on the Crane cam are 479 518 210 224. Which one of these cams will get me to 340 rwhp on an A4 car? Also, where does each cam make their power at, like mid to topend, or low to mid. Thanks everybody, and "GO CANES"!

Re: Hot Cam vs. Crane 227 cam

I have the crane 227. I couldn't be happier with the driveability with it. It has some lope at idle, but it drives like stock, except when you get on it. As far as the dyno #'s in my sig thats with an a/f in the low 12's and a bad coil, so I know i picked up some more. I picked up power from the start of the dyno run to the end of it over the stock cam too. I would think the crane would make more power down low-midrange and then the hotcam more power uptop.

I have the hot cam, its not too crazy, has a nice smooth idle still, but gave me some good power that I definitely noticed once i took it to the track.

Got me 4 tenths better in the quarter and almost 3 mph better trap speed.
