hotcam kit! New timing?
Im getting a hotcam kit and im wondering... Do i need to get a whole new factory timing set or just the timing chain? The car is a '94 Z so it does not have the vented opti and it has 33k mi. on it all original. Thanks

I replaced mine too, with the cam change. Only had 28k on it, but what the heck. I used the stock replacement gears and chain. Replace all of it or none, don't mix and match.

Mine looked just fine even at 90K, but I changed it anyway because of the mileage, and "I was already there".
Do what you want, but I think at 33k your set will be just fine if you don't. I probably wouldn't change it.

If my memory serves me correctly, if you do the LT4 chain that i think they are talking about you have to convert to the newer timing cover and vented style opti with the cam witht he longer dowel pin. I could be wrong.

They are right, if you want to upgrade the timing set, you'll also need to convert the timing cover, etc. When I did mine around 80K miles, everything looked good, but I still put a new set, gears and chain. Do not replace the chain or gears only. Its cheap insurance and now is the time to do it since your there already.
