How Abusive Are You On Your Stock-Bottom LT1?
Just curious how bad some of you guys are pounding on your cars ...
Mine sees 6,000 RPM's usually at least once every time I take the car out. I always manage to find somewhere for at least a 1-2nd gear run.
Never really rev it that high though. If I am just revving the car up, I try not to go past 3500-4000ish. One of the hardest thing you can do on a motor, too bad it sounds so bad ***
I should try to go easier on the car so I can one day still have the origional motor for it ( Building a 383 sometime soon here, anyone have a block for sale near Pittsburgh? )
Id say overall if I had to do a 1-10 on how abusive I am on my vehicle, I'd give it a 5.
At least I always let it warm up before I drive, and up to normal temps before I go above 2500 RPM's. I change the oil very frequently in the car also. I guess its kind of like one of those parents that beats, abuses, and neglects their child, but makes up for it by babying them a day or two every month lol. And if any of this doesnt make sense, I blame it on the alcohol .... This thread made sense to me.

I rarely drive my car, when I do, I might give it a few "spirited" runs, but thats about it. I would say on the abuse scale, maybe a 2-3? I am gathering parts to put together a LE combo, with a built shortblock, and a direct port setup so I would like to keep the car running and enjoyable in the meantime.

During the summer, I gave my car hell. Everywhere I would go I was cranking it out. Was spinning way to much also. After a visit to the tranny shop and $975 shelled out, I eased up on her . I would say now my abuse level would be around a 5 or 6.

My car has 35k original miles, all of which are driven hard. When I say hard I'm
referring to street driven hard as I have zero track time. The car is for recreational
use but set up to be a daily driver. One to three and sometimes four WOT, 6k shifts
each trip out. Every other trip out will have a 2-3 WOT run through a local tunnel
that is a blast. Oil and filter changes every 2-3k and I never drive it hard until it's
warmed up. I live for those C5 Z06 and SRT8 moments, just too much fun!
Overall rating is probably a 7. Why have one of these cars if you are not going to
enjoy the hell out of it.

I would say from the scale I would be a 6 or 7 depending my mood. If im pissed I would fish tail it and hang it tot he right. When im happy I do the same thing. But I always take good care of the car and I don't drive past 60MPH on the highway unless someone wan'ts to race me. 160K orig miles. I always warm up the car for at least 5 min. But you gotta let the car loose every so often.

5-7 on the scale, also a DD. I try to let it warm up also before going nuts, but as the only means of blowing off steam at lunch and after work, it's hard to resist. It's funny but when it rains and I drive my car at a 0 on the scale, the next available sunny day my abuse goes to an 8 or 9 on the scale
I fear it will be even worse when I get the Loudmouth.

Until I get my headgasket fixed this summer, I'm not going above 3500 idel-3500 is a pretty strong pull an LT1 as is. Normally during the summer when I daily drive it I go WOT very seldom, I will go like 3/4 throttle and pull a gear up until like 4500 when I'm trying to merge or someone pissed me off. The only time I really go WOT is when I'm at a stop light w/ another car and the roads clear ahead....I just try to save gas when DD, but when I'm at school and only take it out once every couple weeks I usually rag on it. The way I see it, since I'm not driving it for two weeks I can abuse it more than normal so it's seen the same amount of abuse it would have if I DD it for two weeks.

Mine would see 6k daily, blew two 10 bolts, and the 4l60 is slipping between 2nd and 3rd. But 130k miles of hard driving I just tore apart the engine for a cam install, and there is almost no wear on anything its amazing. I change my oil religiously with mobil 1 every 3k miles. So the motor seems to handle me, just nothing else
