How to adjust rockers with covers off?
I adjusted my rockers when my engine was not running, now they are noisy. It seems like a PITA to get the covers off without takeing everthing out of the way. What is needed to be removed to take the covers off with everthing put together, and running. When i do this 1 side at a time, do i loosen all the bolts then start it, then tighten to zero lash then 1/4 turn.
Thanks

Ahh I had hell with mine! Basically I had to take off the alt. and that's it (then valve covers). What rockers lifters are you running?
I tried the running technique and it just became to much of a hassle. IMO it's easier if its done off, if you know how to adjust them.

I found it easier for myself to do it without the valve covers off.
It will get a little messy, so make sure you top off the oil beforehand.
I always loostened(slowly) until you hear the tap, then you slowly tighten until the tap goes away, and as soon as the tap goes away, turn it 1/2 past...I've done 1/2 past on mine?

I did mine with the car running and they sound good now. I did mine 3/4 turn. Only thing, don't tighten down the rockers too fast or you will cause the lifter to bleed down and you'll have to start over.

I had a special valve cover to adjust the rockers on my 77 Z28. I took an old valve cover and cut a strip down the center so I could adjust the nuts and keep oil spray to a minimum since the car had close to 100 psi of oil pressure when it was cold.
