How bad does this lifter look?

I guess this is a product of valve float from the springs not being setup at the right height. I'm probably going to put in a new lifter just to be safe, how bad does this look to you? I can't see any damage on the cam looking through the lifter bore.

I would say its toast, I had one that bounce off the lobe for a few miles and it looked similar but iit was pretty odvious that it was screwed up, you could "feel" flat parts on the roller.

ya as far as I could tell, I replaced the all the stock lifters with morels and hoped I hadnt done to much damage, that was about 10k miles ago and I have been beating the hell out of it. I ended up damaging the pro mag lifter to.

Lifter is done, get a new one. I'd pull that cam and check it as well. Check it VERY closely. No need killing a good engine when a cam is fairly cheap.

Here's the best picture I could get of the cam. This is the lobe where the worst lifter came out of.

At a minimum I would roll the motor over so I could check out the lobe all the way round. Better still would be to pull it, but that's up to you. Just be certian that it's not screwed, cause if it is it's just going to kill the new lifter almost instantly. There's a lot of force pressing down in that lobe!

The cam needs to come out. Don't take any chances.

That cam if FUBAR. I had the same thing happen, if you leave it in it'll just eat the next lifter you put on it. Once that top hardned part goes its all down hill. Look in your other thread and you'll see my vid from when I toasted mine.

The thing he needs to remember too is that when that new lifter dies and comes apart or the lobe starts to chunk, it's going to be sending hardened steel through the oil system. That can wipe out a crank or rods in just a couple revolutions.

Pull that cam man! It's a pain in the butt, but it's a LOT cheaper in the long run.
