How can I determine if my MAF is bad or not...

By unplugging it and letting it go into speed density mode and seeing if it idles better, dont have a scanner or a spare good one.

well, if it didnt work, then ur motor would die when you start it up...

if you keep it connected, but pulled of the tb, try starting it...it wont start...that means that it's workin, cause it's getting different readings.

Why do you suspect your MAF is faulty? Have you ever cleaned it? (electrical contact cleaner) If you don't clean it, road grime/dirt will impede the sensors correct operation and make it react slowly. If I didn't have a scanner, I would try a unit off a buddy's car to see if my car ran any better.

drove it around with it...

disconnected, having a issue with a detonation as it shifts into 2nd gear and a load is put on it, I tried it connected and disconnected and it pinging either way. So I rule it out, I cleaned it several times with electrical contact cleaner.
