how difficult to swap ls1 engine in 93 formula?
A friend of mine ran across a wrecked 2002 z28 with 20,000 miles on it CHEAP. he asked me if i would be interested in putting the engine out of it into his 93 firebird formula that has over 200,000 miles it. I know there are a lot of differences between the two engines, but what if i pulled the complete motor/tranny (auto)/k-member out of the 02 and installed it all in the 93? along with the computer, harness, and some other nic nacks, would it all bolt up? what about difficulty?? I have dropped motors out the bottom several times, but i dotn want to spend too much time fabbing up stuff on his possible setup. any other info from people who have done it or seen it will be appreciated. thanks

it might work, but i have heard that the dimensions from inside fenders is wider on a ls1 cars due to ls1 engines being wider that lt1's,and hood clearance would be an issue

I would understand it not being feasable if you had to get all the things for the swap, but it wouldnt be so bad if all you had to do is drop out the stuff you need out of the ls1 and put it in the lt1. I looked at a friends ls1 today and it does look a little wider in the engine bay, but its hard to tell just by eye-balling it because the motors look so totally different. Some other concerns were if the k-member bolt holes and top strut studs will line up to the lt1 frame/body. Has anyone tried this before?

Don't quote me here but I saw in someone's sig, I think it was Jason Short, that he has a 93 Formy with an LS1 in it. You may want to get in touch with him.
