How do i spin a cam to 6500 safely?

Could of sworn high RPM's and stock internals don't mix....
Build a bottom end that can handle the load... and a top end that can take you there.

The question was how to spin to 6500 not 7500. The stock bottom end will do that no problem
Now if you wan't to spin a motor above 6500 it would depend on what you where trying to acomplish. If you want to build an autocross car for instance I would recomend destroking it.

I was only saying that sure 6.5K is easily achievable in an LT-1 with the right cam.... I can get my stocker to hit 6.3K...it's not a big deal... but if this guy just throws a cam in and expects his car to hit 6.5K + and higher all the time on some worn internals.... it mightbackfire on him... It's all possible... but it justd depends on the condition of the engine...

I do live up north, but i don't drive in the winter. It does get cold here though before i put it away. in the 30's. I usually use 4 quarts 5W-30 synthetic, with one quart lucas oil. I guess maybe i should just be using 10W30 instead of adding the lucas--kindof does the same thing. I think if i do my head and cam package, i'll be changing over to 10W30 and maybe still keep putting in the lucas oil, who knows.

Oil weights just means it falls into a viscosity RANGE not a precise reading, browse the site I linked for accureate oil related info because your statments prove you know little.

so much for the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) that rates the stuff.

Oil weight, or viscosity, refers to how thick or thin the oil Is. The temperature requirements set for oil by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) is 0 degrees F (low) and 210 degrees F (high). Oils meeting the SAE's low temperature requirements have a "W" after the viscosity rating (example: 10W), and oils that meet the high ratings have no letter (example SAE 30). An oil is rated for viscosity by heating it to a specified temperature, and then allowing it to flow out of a specifically sized hole. Its viscosity rating is determined by the length of time it takes to flow out of the hole. If it flows quickly, it gets a low rating. If it flows slowly, it gets a high rating. Engines need oil that is thin enough for cold starts, and thick enough when the engine is hot. Since oil gets thinner when heated, and thicker when cooled, most of us use what are called multi-grade, or multi-viscosity oils. These oils meet SAE specifications for the low temperature requirements of a light oil and the high temperature requirements of a heavy oil.

Valve springs play a big role into what you are gonna spin. If your springs can't handle it you'll have valve float and worse yet spring breakage.Make the valvetrain lighter, using titanium retainers and such, can help cause you lose the weight that actually gains momentum as you spin faster over coming the springs ability to shut the valve.
