How does a bullet muffler effect sound?
#2
its got a very light packing of material and is a straight through design, so yes it does reduce the sound just a bit, but you'll notice it more as tuned better, many of those resonators are just a light packing to help tune the system. I suppose the type of muffler and system now will play a key part in how it sounds, it may or may not do much for you. In my quest for a quieter exhaust I threw a couple type mufflers on my sytem to no avail with any good reduction or tuning that I wanted

I went from stock piping over the axel and no muffler to 3" piping after Y, into an 18" bullet and dumped before the axel. It's a very basic setup, but changed the tone of my car drastically. It used to be pop and now does not pop at all. Also now it has a lower tone to it. Sounded great before and sounds more like an fbody should now. Btw, I have no cats and slp shorties.

Tuning with a Bullet
I have 1 3/4 " long tubes a 3" y 3 1/2 collector. To the 3 1/2"
bullet before rear. then over the rear end into a 3 1/2" Dynomax Ultraflow. Single 3 /1/2 out. I used the bullet as a resonator to keep some of the sound out the car but I didnt realize how much better it would sound than a true duel Ultraflow setup. It made the sound deeper than just ultraflow. Car is still a bit loud @ wot outside the car but just right inside. In my case it worked great for tuning.

cause ive got 2 carsound cats on the car, and i dont think one of them is doing anything cause its too far from the collector. and i was gonna replace them with 2 bullets cause i have heard that you get a ton of rasp without the mufflers? When is this rasp noticable?

Bullet mufflers are often referred to as resonators in the exhaust industry. On OEM applications, they are frequently used to augment the main silencer in the exhaust system. In systems where the resonator is the only silencing device, they start to attenuate frequencies above ~600 hz (give or take, based on tuning, volume and restriction), and are quite effective above ~1000hz. Many aftermarket resonators have packing, which is slightly more effective at absorbing the higher frequencies.
In short, the resonator gets rid of some of the raspy, tinny sounds and lets the lower frequencies dominate.
