How to get the most out of the Lt1

I really want to shoot up my horsepower through the roof, Im a newbie thats learning how to do this, but im getting aqcuainted with some of this stuff.
I would like to get the MOST out of my Lt1 engine, I figured 383 stroking would get me high, and I will also port my heads and intake and get a hot cam, but I want to go even further than that, I want to have a crazy engine, one that can beat all cars on the street. Im also thinking of nitrous 150 shot and a vortech supercharger. But what are my options

well just a super charger on a stock engine would beat pretty much everything out there. A 383 stroker if built right will beat anything out there.

Actually to make things simpler, instead of asking what I can do to my engine, I would like to know how some of you guys get 800HP N/A out of an LT1, what has been done???? Ive heard on this board that there are such LT1's

What if something breaks? Like your engine or tranny?
I don't know if the stock t-56 or 4L60E were meant to hold 800 hp.

Well, fine then, how high can I go and be safe? What are the limits. Becuase I woul like to beat cars like vipers, lambos, m3's and ferrari's. I dont care too much about times, but I want to pull on those cars... where should I be at.

if you want to be able to "pull away" from super cars i would suggest having about 1300 hp. the best way to do this would be a twin turbo setup. i think you need to re-evaluate your situation. think about it this way, lt1 camaro: $8,000 lamborghini: $500,000. you have some serious catching up to do. i heard somewhere that there will be a tt kit available soon for do-it-yourselfers, good luck

Well even Vipers and Z06's and the Pasta Rockets are 12 Sec cars trapping at around 115 mph. Certainly within the reach of a intelligently modded 4th Gen.

Theses are general figures of course but you could match their straight line acceleration with proper modifications that compliment eachother.

A Vortech Supercharger seems like an easy one step way to pull on an exotic.

Redoing the exhaust from the headers back almost goes without saying.

From there you may be concerned with Tranny issues such as upgrade clutches and lightned flywheels.

Just a few ideas to keep in mind.

I dunno, since the compression on the LT1's is so high, I have heard some bad stories about puttin superchargers on LT1's. I would much rather go with a turbo setup and a nice spray system.

Read your GMHTP mag everyday... you will found out everthing you need to know... dont worroy about 800 hp its hard enougth getting 400 to hook I would hate to see a 800hp car get out run by a 300hp car..

Uh, turbos or superchargers, boost is boost. Neither is "safer" than the other, especially on a stock LT1.

taking to the extreme and well built LT1 in CA that is still streetable check out
http://para.noid.org/~lj/ (soon 1000hp)
http://www.poltergeist.us/robss/
Then read all the highly modded LT1 in America that has a website of their work.

However, you probably only need about 500rwhp to get what you want. Since you are, I think, want to pull on them on the freeway you may not need to spend way too much on the rearend at first.

Be prepare to spend a lot of time and a lot of money, and lose the carefree of a unmodded car. Also after you do all that, once those exotic car get to 160 and up, it's over for you.

Once you are sure of what system you want (NOS, SC, turbo), find a good engine builder you trust and let him work his magic. then . . . .

cheers

If it's a daily driver I wouldn't worry about putting out an ungodly amount of HP. I dont' know how some of these guys even run 800+hp on the street. Sometimes getting a drag car to hook up with around 7 to 800 hp at the track is a problem, so I can't imagine what it would be like on the street.
I believe somewhere around 500 would pretty much kick most guys on the street.. even maybe 400rwhp. I haven't modded my car yet but built a motor for a freind which is just a really mild 383. no top end work at all (stock cam, rockers, no porting on the heads or anything) and it has trouble keeping the wheels from spinning. The trans has been built (stronger parts and shifts harder) and theres 3.73s in the rear which all means wheel spin. It'll spin the wheels clear into 3rd gear with no problem at all.
I think before you spend all the money on a lot of horsepower try to get around 350 to 400 to the rear tires, if you can get good traction you should be able to beat most guys out there even some with more horsepower
