It's not hard....but don't mess with it not worth it!!

Call and ask for Jason Cromer at this # 1-877-SAM-TAYLOR or 850-244-5165

My brother just bought an opti from him on Monday...it's was like $225 shipped!

But if its easy to rebuild and will save me over $100 bucks why not??
a non vented from Jason is 319.00 i allways get the most expensive stuff to replace!.

and right now I could use the xtra $100.

any one else with dos or dont for rebuilding an opti??

Re: how hard is it to rebuild an opti???

I'm just saying it's easier just to buy a new one rather than rebuild it and it still go out just like all my friends have tried doing....the parts it gives you to rebuild isn't the part in the opti that goes bad...Trust me I know it's a lot of money...but the new opti that you buy from Jason are better than the stock ones that came on the car...since GM redesigned it a little...and it's much better and shouldn't go out again! Just bite the dust and buy the new opti! My friends wish they did!

Re: how hard is it to rebuild an opti???

94z if you do rebuild it, cap and rotor basically, just make sure you get quality parts not some cheap *** crap. Too much hassle to do twice. Check with Jason or Dal for the kit. I would avoid e-bay parts unless they are 100% GM. Long story short when it comes to parts like that you get what you pay for. The rebuild is easy. I would make sure to use a dab of thread lock on the screws.

the ebay vendor states that they are GM parts and come sealed in a GM box so it sounds legit but who knows, I wil check in to it further. does any one have a link to a page with a rebuild how to?

Thanks guys!

94 check shoebox site http://shbox.com/1/4th_gen_tech1.html
basically rebuild is unbolt old cap and rotor bolt on new one. If the e-bay parts are GM i would say go for it. But i would still check with Jason or Dal before buying. Case in point I bought LT4 valve cover kits for about the same price as i see used ones sell on e-bay! Less than $20 difference!

Did you buy the whole thing or just the rebuild kit?

Cool man....glad you did...and you will be too...you shouldn't ever have to worry about it again!! Yea...it sucks having the non-vented doesn't it...the crappier design and it's more expensive!

Re: how hard is it to rebuild an opti???

just my .02 on the rebuilds...
I recently had to replacec the Opti (nonvented) on my 94Z and it was a pain the first time (lol). I ended up installing it wrong even though it went on flush and everything 'seemed' good. If you install your Opti and it clicks, but doesnt fire or ignite....you will need to uninstall EVERYTHING and put it all back in again, like I and some others on here have already experienced. Take a GOOD note to do it right the first time, check some other threads on here about Optis BEFORE installing yours..unless you've done it before, then just good luck.
But where my .02 comes in, I wanted to tear apart my old Opti to see exactly how they worked and what was wrong with it (instead of pitching up a couple hundred bux and not knowing WHY im replacing it..). I found out you would need to get ahold of a company like Snap-On Tools or something, and spend the extra doh (around $12) for a special star shaped socket. If you attempted to unscrew those with conventional means, you'd most likely strip them, they are very small bolt heads and it would be a pain to put them back in..etc. So it's a good thing you did end up buying the new one. I myself put a new(er) one in (bought one used, had 3k mi on it) and it almost seems like something is wrong with it again, after only 2 months..not even. I think when my Water Pump went out, it got something in the Opti..
I noticed you spent over $300..didnt transamgt say you could get it for under 230 shipped? Maybe he was talking about the vented..I dunno. Im starting to think its worth the upgrade to convert to a vented opti
anyways, good luck with your new opti, let us know how it goes. Im curious as to how different it is from the original GM ones..dont think there;s really much else you can do to redesign it to make the nonvented any better..
Sorry its so long, good luck! Derek
