How to install Taylor Opti ends on Accel wires???
I've got everything I need to install my headers tomorrow. All's left is to get a straight reply on how to crimp the Opti ends on.
I've got the accel 8.8mm 300+ wires along with the taylor Opti ends. I think all I've got to do is
cut to length
trim the insulation back leaving 1/2" core exposed
trim part of the outer layer away down to 8mm
fold the core back
crimp the connector
push the boot on
I'm goining to use a drill and hollow out the opti ends to better fit over the larger 8.8 wire. Then use RTV or sometype to seal the end up just to make sure no moisture gets in.
Does this sound right?

that sounds right to me, but the ? i have is why you bought taylor boots, and not accel. may seem like a stupid ? with the answer that accel doesn't make them. but i just thought that pulling insulation down to 8 mm wouldn't be such a good idea. but thats just my novice .02

I'm only goining to trim the area at the clamp. The clamp was made for 8mm and it just doesn't wrap far enough around the 8.8mm to make a good tight fit.
I don't know why another copy don't pack and sell just the Opti ends..??

I highly recommend using the vice crimping blocks instead of the hand held crimper pliers. It's easier, and the results is way better! But I'm not sure 8.8mm will fit in it so well.

That is what I am thinking. Will the 8.8s even fit? I had to SQUEEZE the damn boots on my 8mm wires and they just barely would go on. That was completly lubed I might add. I just don't know that the boots will fit on those wires. But the steps to take is:
1.) Measure wire's needed length.
2.) Cut with about 1/2" extra length
3.) SLIDE BOOT ON NOW. You cannot crimp the wire and then slide the boot on. Just move the boot down about 2 inches from the end of the wire
4.) Now cut the 1/2" off down to the core
5.) Fold core over onto the insulation
6.) Put metal part (conductor?) directly on top of the folded over core
7.) Crimp down the metal part so that it is nice and firmly snug
8.) Slide boot back down the wire so that the opti boot and metal part are flush
9.) Push opti boot onto appropriate plug on the actual opti. Be sure you hear a distinct CLICK noise to insure that it is completly installed.
10.) Repeat for the rest of the wires

The 8.8 are too big. But the handy cordless drill just fixed that problem. I just started with one drill bit and took some off the inside then I stepped up to one size larger. I did this three times. It has helped alot.
I did rip one in half --- too much too quick.
thanks for the tips
