How to launch with a stall?

Need experienced racers to answer this question. I'm about to go to SLP day on 02/15, and I've never been on a dragstrip. I don't want to make a fool of myself, so could someone tell me how to properly launch the car with my 3200 Vig and Nitto DRs. The only thing I know is not to drive through the water with my front tires.

I saw a guy with a 2001 TA, all bolt-ons, 3600 stall a nitto's on 17" wheels. He did a brake stand to heat up the tires a little, stomped it at the line and was cutting 12.3's. I've never launched on an auto so I couldn't tell u TTT for ya anyway.

brake stall
slam gas down 3/4 (well find out how much for your setup)
and gradually get down to WOT

the %throttle and how fast you get to WOT is dependant upon your car/conditions/prep

Cool

Thanks, guys. I thought the brake stall was bad for the tranny, but I guess if you don't do it all the time, you're OK. I'll do a little practice before I go.

u have a vigilante, they like to be flashed. U have nittos and u will be at an AWESOME track, dont worry about spining, worry about breaking the rear end, but anyways.....STALL UP TO ABOUT 2800 AND WHEN THE LIGHT GOES GREEN, PUNCH IT, vigilantes, as i said, liked to be flashed, not launched from the stall speed, also they are underated, u are actually stalling at about 3400....but just try different combos of burnouts and launch rpms to see how your car likes it....i will be there at SLP day, if u need any help....let me know if u want a way to contact me.

Thanks

Thanks, Onefast. I'll try and look for your car while I'm there and say, "hi." I saw pics on your link. I just hope the weather isn't as bad as it's supposed to be.

I bring my vig up to 1500 and slowly lean into the gas until I hook and then slam on the gas. You will probably have to run it a couple of times to get use to it.

Good luck

I have a vigalante 4000 stall with MT E/T streets.Have tried many ways of launching from stalling at 2500,2000, 1500,to just unough rpms that you feel the rearend rise up.My best way I found out from trial and error is by flashing the vig from idle.

I have a weird converter, Its a Vig 3200 but flashed to 3600. I found this out when I slapped on BFG DR's for the first time brake stalled to 3000 then nailed it. Smoked the tires all the way through first gear.

Flashing............Do not raise your rpms up before launch, this will get the TC spinning up till it reaches it flash point, and takes hold.

Speaking of launching, what is the best way to launch a Z with a stock converter. I too have never been on an actual strip, but I will this spring. The only mods that I have right now are in the sig, but Apr. 19th is the first day our strip is open, and I have an LT4 KM on the way, and I will have a new cat-back by then as well. So if you could offer suggestions on launching with that setup that will be great. I will also be running street tires on it, so I was curious of decent tire pressures. The weather in April is in the 60's-70's, and the humidity isn't that bad, but I think that we are around 2500 feet.

That's what I'm afraid of! When I race the street heroes around here, I can sit and boil the tires if I don't feather the throttle (but they are Goodyear RSC's, and they SUCK). I have heard the running the fronts at around 40-44 psi and the rears at 28-32 psi will help a little, but if anyone has any other suggestions, let me know.
