How long, miles, will a 97 LS1 last befroe rebuild
I have an opportunity to buy a 97 z-28 with 120K for a 30th anniversary 9K seems high convertible how long should I expect the motor to last and how much for someone to rebuild and install. Also this goes for the transmission too

A 97 Z28 does not have an LS1. LT1. A motor will last for a couple hundred thousand miles if it is well taken care of and does not suffer a part failure from manufacturing defect....it is all the other stuff on the car....

Sorry about that Newbie mistake....I have never had a real Chevy before(Corvair does not count) All my fun cars have been pre 73 ie a couple of 72 Cutlass' w/455, 70 cougar w/390, datsun Z cars and Roadrunner w/440 So this is a new expereince....Trying to get a handel on everything and what i am getting into I have spent the last couple of hours reading posts trying to gain some knowledge about the new cars I am used to doing the majority of my own work but now i am getting to old-- no time, more money and would like to get something I can drive on weekends and dont have to take my tool box and a couple of boxes of parts (belts, fuses rolls of wire)
The car I am looking at is well taken care of nice interior and paint...Other parts to worry about such as ????(Most common areas, seen the window gremlins, water pump and fuel pump threads)...
I like the 97 30th Convert have not been able to find another...trying to get down to 7500....

Another common problem is the Optispark with the LT1's. I'm not sure if that car has this thing or if it's on older LT1's. Seems like every other post in the LT1 forums is about a problem with these, look into this more. Sorry I can't give you more information about them, but I have an LS1.

That doesn't sound like a good deal at all. I bought my 98 original owner T/A(LS1), with way less miles for $8,000. For $9,500 you could buy an LS1 with less miles than that car.

I agree, I got my 25th T/A with 62,xxx on the clock for 7k. Keep bargaining!

Buying a LT1 with 120k miles would not worry me a bit, my car has 121k on it and runs perfect, even original opti.
If the opti goes out just replace it, not a big deal.
On my Z that I sold it did blow a head gasket at 130k miles, still not a big deal, have the heads reworked at a machine shop and you are good to go again.
Some people have had problems with the auto transmissions after 100k miles, mine is still shifting perfect and I changed the fluid not long ago, still bright red in color and no material found on the bottom of pan or in the filter.
LS1 cars are nice and I do want one, but I will still keep old faithful LT1 even after purchasing a LS1.

LT1's are the most indistructable motors everbuilt. I odn't c are what anyone says... I swear these things can take such a beating it's not even funny, and to have the biggest problems be an oil leak from an intake.... and just an annoying way to replace the distributer setup... common. The LT1 is a Classic.

for an FYI, my cousin just bought a 1996 formula with 123k on the clock. for $2,800, i know its not a vert, or 25th... but paint was decent(2 scratches) and headlights didnt go down... but that was an easy 60$ fix.

My dad used to use a Lt1 powered buick roadmaster for his taxi business. He sold it with 320k km's years ago... and the new owner has since put another 140k. This engine has never been rebuilt and runs fine, from what I hear. The tranny, on the other hand, did not enjoy the same fate.
