How much of an ET drop going from 2.73 to 3.73?

Well, its finally time to get rid of these nasty ol 2.73s. I have an appointment friday to get them installed. Will be putting in strange 3.73 gears Im pretty excited! Except im going to have to drive around with my computer all f'ed up for at least a week. Gotta get another computer from pcm4less

Now back to my real question... How much of a gain in ET should I expect. And everyone that went from 2.73s to 3.73s show me how much you gained.... current best in sig

-Robert

The only thing that will be messed up is your speedo because your VSS won't know the change in gears. You'll gain a little (few tenths) not much - not seconds anyways It will livin' up the car a lot through the RPM ranges though.

You may gain a tenth or 2. If you had a converter, you would gain a lot more. WHen i went from 2:73's to 3:73's I gained nothing, notta zip, zilch. I added a 2800 vig and dropped 9/10ths with no other mods.

it's really hard to say. i'm hoping to do 2.73>3.73 also in the coming months. i've heard stories of people gaining a couple tenths...all the way to others saying "WHAT?! i don't think you know how crappy 2.73's are! i gained almost a half second!" so anyways, i wish i could answer you, but hopefully you can let ME know and post your times when you find out! from some installers locally, you'll typically see around 3 tenths going to 3.73's, depending on how good your tires are.

probably one of the best mods for the money that you have done to the car, switching to those 3.73's. Going to the 3.73's it brought my car out of the 14's. My only problem was when I had the PCM redone for the gear swaps, they didnt redo the shift points. So the car still hit rev limiter in the 2-3 shift. So I was pissed off when I took my car to the track that day. But Im going to have them fix that issue when I get it dyno tuned.

I tried to be a rebel and wiat it out to get the PCM redone. And Ill tell you right now, I was stupid. It puts a extra decent amount of miles on your car that your not putting on there. So get the pcm reprogramed ASAP, so you dont rack up the miles on it. For your information I was runing 14.2-14.1 with the 2.73's. And I in order to stop the car from hitting rev limiter, I had to ease off the pedal before it would shift to 3rd, I still cut a 13.8 with that 3.73's. So if I had the shift points fixed the car would of most likely run a 13.7-13.6. Thats a nice increase. Good luck bud.

I have a 2.73 gear in my car. I have got a cc 305 cam, ported heads, headers, a 2500 stall, 1.6 crane rockers, dual valve springs, OBD1 conversion and a few more bolt ons. The car still isnt crap off the line. If if hit it at 70, then it is really moving. I am going 3.73

LTLHOMER's 94Z went from 14.3's to 13.6's with about a 0.1 sec drop in 60' times on his bone stock car. It made a big difference (and that was averaging ~10 runs before the change and ~20 after).
