How much is too much? SMOG?

Just curious, at what point does it become difficult to pass smog?

I'm considering an LT1 Z28 but I'm in CA and I feel like if I my tire pressure were off by 1/2 a pound I won't pass.

Thanks

-Jesse

If it helps, my 93 in NJ (freakin way worse inspections than CA, I know cause I've lived in both) passed with a 1/2 gutted stock cat. The rear brick broke up, so I removed the remnants. Passed easily.

Sort of off topic but fastbird how do you like your headers. Those are the ones i'm gonna be getting. How did they affect the sound of the car. I also live in california. But unless you mess with the internals of you engine to much or go with no cats you should be okay. You will fail the visual easily but you can usually find a shop that will pass you as long as you pass the sniffer.

What are you refering to when you said you'd fail the visual?

Not having cats?

Well for instance if you relocate your cats you will fail the visual inspection but you will pass the acual emisions part. Same thing if you convert 2 cats to a single cat, you will pass the emissions part but not the visual.

I seriously haven't run into a single place this past year who performed a visual on my car . Not that they don't but I'm just saying The reason why I know this is cuz I took my car to several shops after puttin my cam in to do pretests to see if I could pass. Obviously it took several pretest attempts to pass the sniffer but after gettin a proper tune it was no problem--no one looked under my car.

Yeah most shops won't. But i'm just saying you would fail a visual. I'm probably gonna get the xe 224/230 cam hopefully i can pass with that.

I really like them. Got a ton of power, and they sound awesome coupled with the random tech stuff. Plus, they're pure eye candy. The quality of them is incredible.

My last Z28 with 355 w/ Vortech S-trim with 230/230 @ .480 lift on a 108 LSA passed smog. I just dropped in a 385 with same Blower and 228/236 511/533 112 LSA cam and hope to pass with that set-up. As long as your not running rich and your CAT is in good shape you will pass. By the way the blower helps with smog.

Sweet. That's one less thing to consider when getting an LT1.
