Re: how to pass emissions

LTs would only be a problem if Denton county has a visual inspection. If it's only a sniffer test, the headers, by themselves, won't be a problem. However, sice you have true duals, I'm guessing no cats. That could be a problem. Also, while you listed your cams lift, but duration and LSA will have much more affect on emissions than lift. Anything over about 224 dur or less than 114 LSA would have trouble, even with cats.

Re: how to pass emissions

I think you should have thought about your areas emmissions before you put that big of a cam in there

Re: how to pass emissions

I passed Marylands "treadmill" emissions test by a wide margin with a '93 Z that runs 12.0's...With a CC305 cam and ported heads. I've still got all the emissions hooked up on my MAC headers, and I can bolt a cat back on it in about 20 minutes. I have an ORP and cat that are the same length, and identically flanged. The exhaust is a Flowmster "cat-back". The cat is the only thing I have to swap to go from dragstrip to emissions station.

Mid length headers are great!

Re: how to pass emissions

Let us know what happens. The wife wants to move to the DFW area, and I'm thinking either Denton county or over towards McKinney. I don't want to run into the same troubles with my cars.

Re: how to pass emissions

what is the duration and lobe seperation on your camshaft? main issue with passing emissions on a cammed car is going to be cam overlap. You state your cam's lift in your sig but that isn't much help.

EDIT: My main problem here was passing idle test, my hydrocarbons were pretty high. I scored like 203 i think (220 allowed). My cam specs are in my sig. I am running a cat still.

Re: how to pass emissions

i had to put a catback on my car. the inspectors didnt like my single 3" bullet and axle turndown. my car doesnt have air system and the egr doesnt work. i do have a random tech dual cat y pipe and the car passed the sniffer (on the dyno) easily at the quick car oil change place on university by albertsons. it has a stock cam. if your car was registered in tarrant county i could get you a sticker.

adv dur 290 307
dur @ .050: 230 245
seperation 112
lift 510 540
i don't have the rockers on right now so this is the actual lift

Re: how to pass emissions

so you don't have a smog/air pump and the egr doesn't work? Was it like this when you tested.

Re: how to pass emissions

that came isn't huge, but it ain't tiny...it's a bit larger than mine. I am on a 112 LSA as well (328/338 duration). You can probably pass if you got a real good tune and everything is in good running order (good wires/plugs etc.). But i stress a REAL good tune.

I mentioned in another one of these emissions threads recently - i took my laptop to the emissions center beucase i failed my first time. I uploaded an open loop tune that was kinda lean and passed, then immediatley booted the laptop again and reflashed the pcm back to my original tune becuase i didn't want to drive it around that lean (without having any idea what my ACTUAL a/f ratio was). I did this beucase i couldn't pass idle hydrocarbons - 35mph test i passed with flying colors. But idle on a came with lots of overlap in closed loop = very rich. Good luck.

EDIT: Oh yes, my AIR and EGR systems are still intact as well.

yep, and the pcm for less tune too. you can come over and look at the sheet if you wanna see exactly how it did.

Re: how to pass emissions

cool i have new plugs tr6's with new msd wires and a new egr i have a catback i can put on it aswell, but i don't have a smog pump. My headers have all the emissions hook ups though. DO you think an open cut out would help me pass or would they catch that right away. I can also get my car tuned at speedworks in lewisville. Do you guys think i can pass.
