Hypertech Power Programmer, Love It, Or Hate It

I have heard a lot of different opinions about the Hypertech Power Programmer for LT1's, good and bad. I am interested in seeing how many like it and how many hate it.

I think it was worth it back when nobody was doing programming. If you changed your gears, then you were stuck with wrong shift points and wrong speedo. Hypertech could fix that when nobody else could do it.

Now, I think it's not worth the $300+ price tag. You can do SO much more for that amount and the difference will be like day and night.

Of course, there are people that don't feel comfortable sending their computer out for programming or they just like the idea of a "power chip/tuner" or simply don't know that there are other alternatives for it... these still buy it and are happy with it.

EDIT: And my vote goes for option #2. I bought one years ago for $125 just to get rid of my speed limiter and thought it was worth it.

I just sold mine (came with my car) for 150 shipped. With the money left over I ordered a custom pcm from Ion. I actually got better tuning and made money on the deal.

The previous owner adjusted the fans with hypertech and had it set so that the fans were always on.

I had one on my 95 Formula for a while. With just a CAI and catback, the car was just as fast at the dragstrip with or without the HPP. When I added a mild cam (214/214) w/ 1.6RRs, the car was .2 SLOWER with the HPP than the stock program. All I used the HPP for was the 160 stat and 4.10 gears that I had put in shortly after the cam. Otherwise I used the stock ECM program until I found someone who could get me a decent tune (not easy back then).

I like my Hypertech, but it was given to me with the car. It allows you to change some things which are worth the price, but there are definately better things on the market now, 2 years later. Of course, I live in the desert, so have the fans come on at 170 versus 210 is a lifesaver for me.

He set it for a 160* when it had the stock stat. So the fans were on when the stat was closed.

Just took the program out today to try to help pass the e-test(failed last week).
The car feels and sounds weaker,I know at wot it may not change much but
daily driving my car feels broken.I too thought I paid 300+ just to change my
fans and speedo, but I really feel the difference and its going back in asap.

i have a modified hyper tech program in my car.. i modified it with tunerproRT, wouldnt waste the money on it if i were you.. will be changing it soon..

my car has a 160tstat, it runs at about 185 stable in this mid-west heat... i havent heard my 2nd fan kick on yet and its set at 195..

you would be better off buying Jet Dynamic Spectrum Tuner, and learning how to adjust tunes yourself..

It does have it's place though... some people shouldn't mess with their car with tunercat or other program. They can brick a PCM or cause engine damage.

Hypertech is more user friendly changing parameters within it's ability.
