I am looking for a cam that is between CC503 and CC306
My hotcam
218/228 .525/.525 (1.6) 112
CC503
224/230 .536/.544 (1.6) 112
CC306
230/244 .544/.576 (1.6) 112
OR
Custom Grind
*Criteria*
Must pass emissions, i dont care about gas as much anymore, but it must pass emissions and be n2o friendly. The cc306 will be too much due to the HIGH exhaust duration, so a little bigger than the 503 and smaller than cc306
Anyone is free to shoot out specs (please note lift if its 1.5 or 1.6 rockers) and who makes it as well as duration at 0.050".

The first thing I would recommend is to talk to SStrokerAce (Bret Bauer) the good doctor of camshafts.
Second possibly look into the GM 846, its just a bit bigger than the Hotcam, but I figured I'd throw it out there. 222/230 .509/.528 w/ 1.5's
I think you'll be most pleased with Bret's work, you wont regret spending the extra cash on a custom cam. Ask around you'll see. A few guys here with 224/230's had a terrible time with them and since went with a cam from Bret and liked it much more.

I agree with what was stated above. I have been extremely impressed with the results from what I have seen with the GM846. I would(am) getting a custom cam from Bret, however, if I was gonna go for a smaller, off the shelf cam I would probably get the 846.

Go custom. Considering the time you spend replacing the cam, the
cost difference is minor. That's what I will do next time. I'm in the
same situation in that whatever I do must pass CA emmissions. When
and if I get to that point I will have the heads ported to match the cam.

thankyou everyone about the suggestions, what was the part number for the gm846 (i didnt know they made that). I will also PM Bret about a custom grind and maybe come to a good comprimise.
anyone else want to chime in, feel free.

Aaron, people with 383's (like you) have gotten a regular cc306 to pas emissions. If you want to be a little safer, you could have the 306 ground on a 114lsa to get rid of 4 degrees overlap. I would look into the new series of lobes like the high lift 230/236 cam as well as contacting Bret.

yea, jon your right. I have finally singled out what i am looking for. Thanks for the help months ago. I will contact bret and ask between cc503, GM 846, and possibly a custom ground including a cc306 ground for 114 LSA.
My other question is will it take 4 degrees off of the intake and exhaust effectivly at 0.050"??

A little preview - http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...bret+bauer+cam
If your doing a 383 you might want to ask Bret about a LE2 size or one like JonA has.
Enjoy.

Re: I am looking for a cam that is between CC503 and CC306
ok, thats cool. I just basically asked him about the GM 846 and would it be ideal for my combo or is there a grind that he can do, that is better. Thanks again.

Re: I am looking for a cam that is between CC503 and CC306
There is always a grind he can do better, thats the thing. But it might cost a little more than a regular cam package. But if you figure you might get an extra 10-15rwhp from a custom cam, is 10-15 worth $150? Yes absolutely, its just like throwing in a E-WP or something but you can still add the E-WP and get another 10rwhp, see? The GM 846 can be bought from anywhere that stocks GM High Performance Parts. I know Jim Pace Pontiac stocks them, right down the street from me. www.paceparts.com I think. Great guys to deal with.
But Bret will hook you up. His email is the best way to get ahold of him, but like someone said be might be out of town.
