You don't waste money on replacing sensors unless they are not working. A scan tool will easily tell you the condition of the MAP sensor. Yes, a bad one would effect gas mileage and power, since the purpose of the sensor is to detect engine load (vacuum).

Have to disagree here. I 've used throtte body cleaner, MAP is working fine, and have checked it against a vacuum gauge. Still right on the money even after 150k.

bad gas milage is usually more affected by driving style and/or bad O2 sensors.

but yeah...the map is easy to change...and i bought one $35 from the local auto store last year.

Also, if the MAP sensor is even starting to go bad, you will get a code. If there are no codes, and the scan tool shows all clear, why replace it? Don't fix anything unless it is broke.

90 percent of the time a bad MAP will give a major rich condition. You will be able to see black smoke at idle, and as others said it will trip a code. Do you have a SES light. Bad milage could be EGR, O2s, fouled plugs/wires. Just go have it scaned.

What should the map sensor read on a scan tool?
