i dont think i can use the cam i just bought

i just bought a cam and everything i needed from a board member.

and i was looking at the spec card and my god this is a big cam.

heres the card of the one i just bought

and heres the one we all know as the 306

now my concern is...i dont even know if this cam will work in my car look at the duration @.050 its 260. the other 306 that we all know is 230.

and what is the differnece in the 106 and 108 ICL how does this affect the cam. and the advertised duration is 306 int and 306 exh on the one i bought. and 290int and 307 exh on the other. what makes the @.05 duration change so much, is it the shape of the lobes or what.

i mean will this cam even run in my

does anybody have any insight as to how this cam will act.

eventually it will have heads and lt.

but im just curious will it even run on stock heads at all.

oh what have i done.

fred kmook any insight.

Another question would be, is it drilled in the front for the vented optispark drive, since it is not an LT1 specific cam.

well the compomp cams site said it fits a engine from 57 to 97

so your saying it may not have the whole for a vented opti but would it fit a unvented like say a. 94 if so i could go back and put a non vented in.

im goging to call comp tommorow ask ask them will it fit. if not what would it take to make it fit.

If you have the cam, is should be easy to tell about the hole. The cam in the left of this pic is for the vented opti.

It also has the shoulder for the cam retainer that the old SBCs don't have.

It's a solid roller cam and it's not for an LT1.

It's a solid roller. You will need new lifters and pushrods to run it. And, of course, periodic valve adjustments. Did you plan to convert to a solid roller?

i dont mind all the extra work it takes. but the stuff im buying from the guy is the lifters, springs, locke, retainers and of vcorse the cam. and he got it all as a kit from comp. doesnt come with push rods though.

i didnt plan on converting, but hey why not.

next year probably summer ill do a 383. not that it matters as of now.

I doubt you will be happy with it with stock heads and no headers. Solid rollers are most apt to be designed to run high rpms to make their power. Your heads and exhaust will be a bottle neck. It will also take some serious tuning to make it driveable. It probably won't run as mean as it is going to sound.
