After seeing a friend repeatidly bend break 3/8 rocker arm studs and regular hardened pushrods I won't run anything but chromeoly pushrods and 7/16 rocker arm studs in my car. I don't know which one broke first and caused the 2nd one to fail FWIW.

Was he using ARP studs?

Be sure to check for correct push-rod length, don't just stick some X-length push-rods in your engine and hope they are correct.

I used some custom length 3/8" diameter Cranes in my engine.

I'm considering these for the pushrods - Comp Cams (Jegs PN 249-7913-16) Standard Length Small Block Chevy Dia/Wall Thickness:3/8''/.080'' Length:7.800''
And these for the rockers - Comp Cams (Jegs PN 249-19005-16) Ultra-Gold Aluminum Rocker Arms90° V6 & V8 SB-Chevy (265-400) 7/16" 1.6 Rocker Ratio

How's that sound?

FYI: Standard pushrod length for the LT1 is 7.200".

I was trying to figure that out. I thought so - thanks.

If it was me i'd go ahead and buy a set of comp pro mags instead of the aluminum ones. You will want the non self aligning type. Dont forget to order new studs cause the ones you have now are 3/8 not 7/16. From your pictures it looks like you already have guide plates unless i'm just seeing things. Fwiw, get yourself a pushrod length checking tool and find out what length pushrods you really need instead of just lobbing any old thing in there.

I do have rod guides (good eye) and in light of the recent conversation I'm planning on getting 7/16" studs. One question though, why Pro Mags? Just curious because as you have seen I'm not the most knowledgeable in this area.

These? - http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...10002_33020_-1

If you have guideplates then all you need are hardened/chromoly pushrods and a different set non-self aligning rockers. If you want to stay with Crane Golds then that will be fine. I'm running them in an engine that's pushing 500lbs of spring pressure. CompCams ProMags or HiTechs or or Crane will work just fine.

No loyalties to either Crane or Comp - just thought I got a good deal on the Cranes. Not that good if I don't do my home work first. It's coming together though - thanks to everyone here at this forum. I appreciate the help.

Most would refer the Promags over the Crane aluminum rockers. The HiTechs and some other high end rockers would be considered overkill. But do go with the ARP 7/16 studs and NSA rockers. Also make sure the pushrods do have the right clearances with the guideplates.

maverickmk,

Measure the inside width of your tip rollers and see of ya can get lash caps to fit between the shoulders.
They go on top of the valve stem when running.
Looks like ya got short tips on the valves or .050/.100 up retainers or keepers.

I have these locks - http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
11/32 10 degree locks on stock valves - I most likely will go with the Comp Pro-Mags.

The tips looked mighty short and those .050 up keepers are the culprit.
