I think shes dead...:(

: I think shes dead...
Today comin home I was cruisin at about 30 down a residential street about a mile from my house. gave it a tad of gas and heard somthin sounded like a small intake backfire and then Started hearin what i thought was valvetrain noise. So i kept going just keepiun the revs real low. the closer i got the louder and more nasty it got. to the point where i started hearing what sounded like marbles rolling around under the intake. started pushin her home. fired her up to get her into the garage, killed it
pulled the valve covers, didnt notice anytihng out of whack.
Fired it again, to listen... normal valvetrain noise and a thuding noise from under the intake...
Im assuming i ****ed my bearings or somthing to that nature.... ANyone have any ideas on what I should do?

Re: I think shes dead...:(

disconnect the coil and spin the motor over to see how much oil pressure you have

you might have dropped the pickup off and lost oil pressure and spun a bearing

maybe? if not yank the intake and take a look around otherwise just go ahead and do a rebuild

Yayh.. she had oil pressure just fine... thats what confuses me...
What can make a thud noise under the intake area?

Spinning the motor over with just the starter won't show any oil pressure anyways. I'd say lifters.

Re: I think shes dead...:(

I thought lifters made a clattering sort of noise as opposed to this noise being a solid thud noise...

Yes it will we prime cars with the starter before we fire them after cam swaps. Dont fire em until it shows pressure.

I've tried that with both my car and my friends Formula and no oil pressure would show at all.

Then you have a problem somewhere. The pcm doesn't read oil pressure, the guage works off of electrical power. So long as its getting power, the gauge will work, completely regardless of whether the car was running or not.
