Arrow I want to lower my car for free.. whos done it?

Like the subject says. I am tired of spending money on my car but the damn thing is just too high so what is the best way to go about lowering it about an inch?

anybody able to get the front coil out w/o taking the car to a shop? I have done everything on this car myself or with friends help so id like to keep that going.

not sure what you mean, no need to take it to a shop to remove the springs, its cake.

however, if you are talking about cutting your stock springs.. I would reccomend against it. you should be able to find used lowering springs for around $100

i have heard the front springs need to be compressed before they come out and it takes a special machine.

I would not suggest doing the front yourself, though the back is easy. You do have to compress the front spring.
Hope this helps....

Cutting the stock springs is a no-no for many reasons. Your car will ride like crap too. You really should get lowering springs instead.

You can rent a MacPherson style strut compressor from Autozone or Oreilly. You give them a deposit, and when you return the tool they give you 100% back.

thanks!.. i might have to take you up on that offer.

why do you guys think its a bad idea to whack of an inch of the spring? im not sure what that translates to as far as coils go but it cant be more than 1 coil can it.

I read somewhere in a performance book for f/bodies you can cut a 1/4-1/2 coil off. It's a little more involved that just cutting 1/2 coil off.I remember it saying you have to heat up the end of coil and bend it to make sure it's straight.I've seen gmhightechperformance cut a 1/4 off there formula front spring to give the car the rake look and it affected nothing.just .01 worht.
