If a coil is going bad will the computer give a code?

Still trying to figure out my ignition problems, I replaced the icm and it did not fix the problem, now I am going to replace the coil, but I do not have any trouble codes from the computer. Should I get some kind of misfire code if the coil is bad from the computer since my car just dies out of nowhere? I have a 96 z28.

OBD-II does track misfires, but there is no specific code for the coil, itself.
