Ignition lock cylinder problem...

I recently replaced my ignition lock cylinder, and replaced the old VATS key with another one that fits the new cylinder (both have the same resistance). However now when I try to start, none of my gauges come on (even in ignition mode) and nothing works in the accessory mode either and the worst part is nothing even attempts to crank anymore. My fans and lights work and I'm showing full charge from my battery from an external voltmeter. If I hadn't just replaced the whole cylinder I'd guess that it needed to be replaced. Any troubleshooting advice?

Thanks in advance

Did you have that problem before you replaced the key cylinder? If so, the problem was not with the cylinder, but with the switch or switch connection (quite common). A procedure for replacing the switch is the fourth down in the "How To's" on my Tech Page.

They are two different things. You know what the key cylinder looks like because you just installed one. In my write-up, you can see what the switch looks like. The key cylinder actuates the switch remotely by a mechanical rod arrangement.

Thanks for your help Rob...

I replaced the switch and I'm starting strong now and keeping a good charge.

Your Tech Page is great!
