After replacing the belt yesterday (don't see how it could be related, but just mentioning it), I tried to start it and the switch felt a little weird. The car won't start (or even turn over), and nothing happens when the switch is in the on position. It almost acts like a dead battery, but the lights work and the battery tests ok. The car has never had any charging related problems, and was showing over 13v on the gauge earlier in the day.

I'm pretty sure its the ignition switch, and here's why. The fans had stopped working at some point, and a previous owner rewired them into the fuse box (basically tapped into another fuse) to an IGN-hot source, so the fans normally run all the time with the ignition on. They're not running at all now. Also, the car has been running on for a few seconds after the key is turned off recently (which I'm thinking is probably feedback through the harness from the fans, to the ignition switch...haven't had time to get into this lately). I'm sure this needs to be fixed properly, or at least routed through a dedicated relay or fuse to power the fans and prevent this from recurring.
Any ideas? Am I on the right track here?

I would also firgure out why the fans correctly. I'm guess someone thought that the engine rus to hot and bypassed everything. thinking this fix the engine running hot problem. These car do run hot and this is normal. The fans don't start to come on until 226 or so. You can reprogram the ECM to turn them on sooner. Which, most of us do.

 

Thanks a lot Rob...that link is very helpful. From the description, it sounds like the ignition switch is the problem for sure. I'm going to rewire the fans as soon as I get it running again.
