I'm getting sick of breaking things...

Help... I bought my 95 Z28 about 6 months ago. It has over 100K and had all the work done to the engine before I got it so obviousely it was beat on. Last week I had to change the rear and then disconnect the MSD ignition after it broke. Now back to the problem I have been having for months...

Okay, when I start the car everything is fine. When I first drive for the first few minutes it runs great and then it almost starts spuddering and stops driving smoothly. If I floor it there is no problem. It's only when I am driving normally that it seems like maybe it's not getting gas or something. OH! Big clue here as to what may be wrong... If I turn the car off and then turn it on again, it will run fine for another few minutes or actually seconds. But then it will start spuddering again. I thought it might be an old fuel filter so I changed it about an hour ago and I still have the same problem. I'm seriousely getting sick of this damn thing breaking down. SOMEONE HELP!

Oh, and the second gear syncro is shot. It grinds every time I throw it in second. I can jam it in when racing, but that is the only way. And I noticed after I put the rear in that it squeaks around turns sometimes so I probably bought a used rear with an axle about to bust. I am disgusted.

Try the opti. Your problem sounds similar to one I had about a year ago. Same thing, it would run great under WOT, but at a sustained low rpm it would sputter and backfire. The opti is a shady fellow, and can do many different things when it's going bad.

Uh...depends what you call hard. It'll take a few hours R&R. As for the tranny.......looks like a rebuild to me. Has it ever been rebuilt?

No, I don't think the tranny has ever been re-built. But who knows, maybe. What does a rebulit and install usually run?

Dunno there, but here its big bucks. Sometimes it's cheaper to buy a new tranny. In the area of 1300 to 1800

The cheapest place you'll find a complete opti these days is at Autozone. They sell rebuilt ones for $130.

I would rather sell this friggin car than put another $2K into it. At least the engine is bone dry, no leaks or anything. I just feel like EVERYTHING else is breaking! I'm thinking about trying to find a 2001 TA or Z. Buying a used., beat on Z, just isn't worth it. It would be one thing if I had all the fun and beat on it, but it sucks that someone else pounded on it and now I get the beat up-break down car!

You can save some money if you take the tranny out and re-install it yourself.

What are talking about? I just bought one yesterday, and had to buy the cap and rotor for another $120

And to the hulk, the opti install isn't bad. Believe it or not, I did a swap last night in 1:35, a new record I think

if your car is running right on startup then acting up. i bet it starts messing up when it goes into closed loop. so before you try replacing the opti try putting new 02 sensors in it. and with it running fine at full throttle it would make since cause the o2s drop out at WOT

i would think the opti would mess up all the time.

Check the plug wires before you assume it's the opti...

Another vote thats the problem. And for your rear, change the oil and add some GM additive.
