Im going to have to cut my dipstick...
When we put the motor together we used a windage tray...and now that I try to put the dipstick tube in it goes in about 2 inches and hits the tray. I tried the dipstick itself and it will go in all the way...I had it in 12" before it bottomed out.
The way it looks Ill have to cut the dipstick tube about 2-2.5". This shouldnt cause a problem should it? Either way I have to so....

i cut about 2 inches off of the end of my dipstick tube when i did my cam swap. it makes it much easier to get back in. just make sure you cut off the end that goes in the block and not the top end. i once saw a post where someone cut the wrong end.

You will need to be more careful when you put your dipstick back in, so that it does not catch on the windage tray or a crank throw (if it happens to be in close proximity). If the stick gets bent, it can snap off or get mangled and leave the metal parts in your engine.

if you are going to cut it, dont put the dipstick in when the car is on. it will break your dipstick. those 2" you cut off hte dipstick tube will make your dipstick move a lot more and it will catch your crank and snap it. happen to me twice!! because i cut 2" off the end of the dipstick tube it made the dipstick move around more.

My Lokar broke, its not an exact fit in the LT1 block, so removing it down the line is a pain.
If you cut the stock tube more than about a half inch, your going to have to cut the dipstick so that it doesn't fight with the crank, eventually cutting it more and more the oil measurement is going to be innacurate.

Geez, I cut the tube about 1.5"and everything went ok as far as installation. The dipstick fighting the crank has me a little worried though...Although my crank is completely covered by a miloden windage tray so I dont see the dipstick hitting the crank at all....I guess well have to see.
Just for ****s and giggles how do you cut the dipstick itself just incase I have to do it?
