Impala Head Gasket Question.
#2
I went through the same decision when I did my heads and cam. I was thinking that due to the thinner gasket, compression would be increased about .5, and gain a few "free" horsepower. Of course this is true and this is a pro, as well as the price (cheap). After looking into it further, I found that due to the makeup of teh gasket and it's intended use (Iron block and heads), that there may be some sealing issues with our cars (iron block and aluminum heads). This is due to the different expansion rates of the metals. Theis is the con. I figured I didn't want to have to redo the procedure again in hopes of gaining a few horsepower, so i went with stock gaskets. If you want thinner gaskets and a higher CR, there some on the market for our cars, but you do pay a little more for them. Hope thios helps,
Kyle
