Installing fuel tank straps help!

Man, I dropped the fuel tank and replace my fuel pump with the walbro, which was easy. But, installing the fuel tank straps are a bitch. They look like they are too short. What did you all do in easing the install.

Thanks Mark

Re: Installing fuel tank straps help!

I vaguely remember it being a pain because I could have used more hands, but it does fit of course. Just make sure the tank's really seated right where it belongs. For me it was sort of a bench press to get the tank in place, hold it up there with one hand and a knee while getting the first strap attached...

Now I remember why I didn't want to remember

PITA. I have taken my tank out several times and they all sucked. You really have to press it into the bottom. I had to use my knee too. You will get it.

Re: Installing fuel tank straps help!

If the bolts were alittle longer that would help, I cross threaded one side so I ran a tap through the u-nut(I think thats what they're called) and that helped alot. I had to use an air ratchet with a couple of extentions and pushed real hard while the bolt spun to get the threads to grab and also balancing the tank with my knee. Once the bolts get started the tank snucks right up there.

When you think you have it in place, push it up there farther...sounds like you just don't have it fully seated. You might also need to rotate it a bit. I've found this technique useful in many applications; i.e. gas tank installation, sex, whatever...

Posting earlier, I totally forgot I need to do this again this weekend. My Walbro came in. I have never been so disappointed when a performance product showed up.

Dude it is not that bad, just getting the tank pass the panhard rod brackets are a bitch. Just drop the whole rear or cut a hole on top.

Re: Installing fuel tank straps help!

It is for me. Rolling around in a rock driveway. Jacking this low *** car up high enough to drop the rear low enough. I have to unbolt the exhaust from the front so that I can swing it out of the way and I still have to force the tank out because I need just one more inch of clearance. Then putting it back in. And I won't cut a hole in it. Yeah, it sucks. I would rather work on my Mustang and that is a real piece to work on.

Oh well, you gotta do what it takes. Guess I might start today.
