Post Installing mechanical oil temp gauge w/o dropping pan

If anyone else is interested in installing a mechanical oil temperature gauge on your LT1 F-body without dropping the oil pan, you can use the hole for the factory oil level sensor in the driver's side of the pan. The proper M20x1.5 to 1/2" NPT thread adapter that you need is part# 7537K2 from McMaster-Carr (mcmaster.com). The Auto Meter fitting threads right into that adapter. The additional length of the adapter put the oil temp tube pretty close to my FLP full-length headers, so I had to insulate the line where it passes the primaries. Of course, you'll have to check your oil level the old-fashioned way, but hopefully you're already doing that anyway.

HTH,
-Brad

why would you want to get rid of your low oil sensor? there is a fitting right above the oil filter where you can put it.

Lethal-

The port above the oil filter is good for pressure, but you can't put a mechanical temperature gauge there. The hole is too small for the bulb.

Yep, thats what I did, works great.

The port above the oil filter is the BEST spots hands down for oil temp sender.

Good find...this will work for those of us who are running strokers and can't use the oil level sensor anyhow.

At the bare minimum this give me a plug that fits the hole. I haven't located anything else yet.
