intake

Today I did the tb bypass and noticed that the part that is on top of my intake has the wires to the plug broke. I have had no change in performance or check engine light on. What is this part and what does it do.
Thanks

Do you mean the sensor stuck in the side of the rubber intake elbow.... the one that curves around from the MAF sensor to the throttle body (I'm assuming you have an MAF, but I can't tell, because you don't mention vital data like the year of your car)?

If so, that's the inlet air temperature (IAT) sensor. If the wires are broken, you should have a DTC code for IAT sensor temperature. 94 and up will run fine without it. 93 needs it for the speed-density A/F control system.

The car is a 1996 z28. The part or sensor is right on top of the intake manifold behind the tb.
thanks again

The black plastic sensor that looks like a domino? That is the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor. It is probably the most critical sensor in the engine... used for timing maps and fuel calculations. Again though, it should have set a code and an SES light if it was not connected. The harness connector will dry out and crack over time.

Yes, that is the one.
I bought the car about a month ago so I'm just starting to play with it. But the wires to the plug look like they were cut some way. Can I get a new plug and tap into the wire were it is cut? The sensor is fine its just the plug that is the problem.

You should be able to go to an auto parts store and buy a standard GM "MAP sensor" pigtail..... the plug, and a couple inches of wire that will allow you to splice it into the existing harness wires. Take the sensor with you to make sure the one you select fits.

If you want a good intake elbow that will never break, get the one that Vortech makes for their superchargers. Very nice piece.
