intake - quick question

Okay so I found a good deal on ebay for a K & N CAI. It came today and needless to say I was pretty bummed.

There's a dent where the filter feeds on the intake. here's what it looks like..

Would that cause any issues? the filter completely covers it, but would it cause air flow problems?

it also came with an elbow, and the inside of the elbow looks kind of rough (literally). I'm not sure how much it matters but I always thought the smoother the better...

the deal also included a ported MAF which I might use just for the hell of it.

what do y'all think?

could easily pound some of the dent out of the intake. The ported maf will potentially give you alot of trouble unless proper calibrations for it are made(based upon what ive read)

does your filter go on far enough to seal well(were its full round)? Various shops may get that out pretty cheap too(auto body, welding and metal fab, muffler. I would almost bet a muffler shop could put that on their pipe expander tool and get that out in a minute or two. An anvil or heavy round item to beat against would get alot out in a hurry.

Autozone rents pipe expanders for free.
Or go by a midas and see if somebody would take 5 seconds and have them use their pneumatic expander for free.

I can move it back to a round shape, but it just goes back to the dented shape. I think I would have to use heat to mold it back. the filter does go on far enough so it seals though

Its plastic? It looked like metal lol. If thats the case heat may do it but if it were mine I might consider a metal insert to keep its shape given I could find something in the right diameter and silicone it in

if you try heat be very careful heat warps some materials crazy. If I tried heat I would find something of the right diameter to go inside(perhaps 3"abs pipe) and have a wet rag or paper towels to protect beyond the surface I was attempting to heat.

Re: intake - quick question

I had this issue once. I tightened the clamp down too hard on the cold air intake tube when installing the filter. I just found something round that I could jam into the tube so that it supported the tubes shape and then used a small propane torch to heat the affected area then just left it to cool and its been fine ever since.

Don't melt the plastic, just warm it up some and soften it. If you melt it its gone but if you don't warm it up enough and the dent comes back then you can try again and warm it a bit more the next time.

Is everyone aware that all you have to do is hit the "EDIT"' button on your first post, and add whatever you forgot to add the first time?

dont have that option on the phone and if you write too much at once you have real trouble proof reading and making corrections.
