Just bought my first Camaro

Hello everyone. I just bought my first Z28. It's a black 1995, auto, t-tops, and leather. I am very excited and so far its been great to drive. I would like to make it a little bit faster though. I don't plan to go to the track, I just want a little faster car. What could be the best things I can do for under $700. I don't want to spend much at first so please help me out. Thanks

Cold air induction (CAI) is the first mod most people do.

Next, people normally go with what is called a cat-back exhaust system, because the system includes every thing behind the catalytic converter.

Also, you may ask around about free modifications that help make the car go faster. Free mods are tricks that cost little or no money. I am no expert on them, or I would give you advice. Bookmark this page: http://shbox.com/1/4th_gen_tech1.html

Is the car Bone stock or has anything been done? If it is, how many miles does it have? Has it had a tune up lately. You can do all the performance mods you want to but if you haven't had a good tune up you'll be pissing in the wind. It seems most of the cars that are bone stock are still running their stock plugs because they are such a PITA to change. My car still had them at 80k when i got it. It could also use some O2's probably if it is high mileage along with plug wires. After that i would look to a catback and CAI. The best way to save money on things like a CAI and catback is to buy used out of the forsale forum. I got my ram air set up for $100 bucks, my coated SLP headers for $300, my $600+ Borla for $275. That stuff would of cost me close to $1500 if it was new but instead it was just about $700.

It just took my shop eight hours to change mine! They said they had to remove the alternator bracket and the starter to get to them. They only charged for four, but told me they would charge me for the full amount next time. Also, I needed my fuel filter changed so bad it was pitiful. If you have never had a car with as much low end torque as an LT1, you may not realize the difference swapping worn plugs and clogged fuel filter can have.

Most people on here recomend NGK TR55 spark plugs (non-IX), and Taylor's 8mm Spiro-Pro wires.

Note that I am not necessarily recommending Thunder Racing for all of these things, I'm just showing you exactly what part I'm talking about. I was a newbie not too long ago as well.

Congrats on the new car!
With that budget you might consider a cold air intake and a set of 1.6 roller rockers and LT4 valve springs. Also you will want to do the throttle body bypass. Combined those mods will give you an honest 15 hp increase and leave you with some change.

Thanks for the advice guys. I think I am going to start with the K and N FIPK, and get some sort of cat-back exhuast, as many of you said. Who do you guys think put of the best exhuast systems for the price and that sound the best? Thanks for the help.

With stock exhaust manifolds, hp gains from a catback will be minimal.
