just did a 383 rebuild and it pings.

All new gaskets and....
used the oil pump from a motor with less than 5K, took it apart, looked at gears etc, and they were good. Took the lifters and the rockers and pushrods too.

I gotta agree with Trey on this one. Heres a few other points. Why coat your piston skirts when all the heat is on the Crown. Your 100 lb. Valve springs are floating at about 4000 rpm. Keep putting Toulene or Zylene in your tank so you can tell us how your $500 383 blew up. High dollar stuff may let go in a rare case but your cheap parts is guranteed to let loose sooner or later.

Like I said for the 14th time, I like it...
And I dont care what you all think, go buy your high dollar stuff, go, go....

This thread is exactly what has been irritating me about this forum lately. I can remember when this forum used to be a place where people discussed LT1 specific technical issues.
Lately there have been a lot of things posted in this forum that have nothing to do with LT1 Tech. I actually read this post interested to know what people thought might be contributing to engine knock in a 383. Instead I find 2 pages of useless ramblings about who thinks they know more about motors.
Please take these discussions off the forum in the future and PM the individual if you have issues. I for one do not believe this is appropriate for this forum.

Me either, this Trey guy....
just wont let up on me about how I spent 500.00 or so to build my motor, which has nothing to do about the pinging problem for which I posted a thread. He started it, just read the thread.

What is some newbie takes this guy's advice and doesn't really know what he's getting into.

Like I said, the motor runs just as good if I had spent 1000 on the crank, 520 on the
pistons, and high dollar rods. There is nothing wrong with it mecanically, and other forum members should look at building cheaper LT-1 strokers, like I did.

as long as the gears in the pump look good and no wear, then...
YEAH, reuse it, nothing wrong with it, has good oil pressure.

Sure, ur happy now, good for u. But do u honestly believe ur motor is gonna hold together for long with using so many improper stock parts? Building an effective stroker cheaply is something to be proud of, but building a cheap stroker with a lot of weaknesses is just ignorant. If the motor holds together, congratulations. If it blows, maybe then u'll understand why some cranks are $300 and others are $1000.

I am willing to bet money your bottom end is weaker than stock.
No one is saying your bttom end isn't strong enough for 350rwhp. some of us aren't happy driopping that kind of money to run 12's and knock the whole way down there. (how much you REALLY dropped, not $500. Gaskets, cam, rings, ect)
