If you're doing 100 miles a day or more, you'll probably find that you can go way longer than 6k between changes, probably closer to 10k or more.

A couple of mechanics told me the same thing, with new engines, conventional oils help "seal" the gaskets during the first 5000-10,000 miles, then switching to synthetic.
I don't know if this is true or not, the mechanics I've spoken to say that the conventional oils get somewhat gummy, which help seal the gaskets??? That is why most folks say not to change to synthetic oil on engines that have high mileage, they find/make openings in the gaskets...???

Rings will seat just fine using synthetics, otherwise there would be a lot of problems with all of the Corvettes built since 1992.
Contrary to popular belief, synthetic oil is not more slippery and does not hinder the break in process at all. I know people who have converted their new cars over to synthetic oil the same day they picked them up, and have no oil consumption issues.
The only reason to stick with dino oil in a new engine is so you can do a few frequent changes at first and not spend a lot of $$$ on oil you're going to just drain out quickly.
