Re: kinda stumped

What have you determined was the failure point on these? Did you autopsy them?

Re: kinda stumped

I am not to sure why you are eating them up at such a high rate. How high are you spinning this setup and what ignition box are you using if any.

Have you checked the wires for voltage going to the opti. Is the harness corroded at all.

He is an article on the opti if you want to know how it works

Re: kinda stumped

the highest i spin it is 5800-6000 rpms, the harness is not corroded and i am in the process of testing the wires. what should the output of the wires be? thanks

Re: kinda stumped

I ran into this also . i replaced 3 opti's in less than a month on my old car after i did a stroker motor rebuild to it. I notice that if i would mess with the harness right at the opti with the key on the injectors would pulse and the the car would have spark again but with a high or low res code set. Come to find out i traced it down the the ground wire to the engine block down by the starter. I hadn't hooked it up i broke it off when removing the harness from engine and had just for got to fix it upon reinstalling it. I put the wire back on the side of the block and haven't have a problem with it sence.

Re: kinda stumped

bryan at pcm4less told me that he has seen many MSD 6AL boxes eat opti's

i could have heard him wrong or misinterpreted what he said, but look up about your ignition box and the stock opti

Re: kinda stumped

Early style opti had a shorter dowel pin by about a 1/4 inch I do not remember exact specs. The later version opti such as your car required the longer dowel.

You might be onto something with your discovery. I would just change the dowel pin either way, not exspensive.
