knock sensor falling apart...4 times. Why?

My friend recently had a 396 built for his lt1. He's had the motor in the car for around 6 months with no serious problems until now. The motor does have a severe case of piston slap when cold but that was the only issue .The problem he's having is that the check engine light continues to come on and the problem is always traced back to the knock sensor. He has removed and disected the sensor and found that there is a wire inside the sensor that continues to break apart. Is there anything that can be done to keep this from happening or does anyone have any ideas why this continues to happen? Thanks for any help you guys can give.

Sounds like he may have a big heat problem. I destroyed a KS with heat when i put new headers on. So on the second i wrapped the wire loom and KS itself with alumimum tape, like the kind used on HVAC so far no problems, 6 months in.

Home Depot makes an LT1 KS delete kit. Go to the allen nuts and get one to shove in the KS' place .

j/k.

Sounds like heat problem. Is the KS showing any signs of heat exposure?

When you install a new one don't crank it with a 1/2 breaker bar! Over tight could seperate the outter shell with the inner parts. Just thinking out loud.

The torque spec is pretty low. Like ~14 Ft-lbs if I remember correctly. Much lower than I'd guess.
