Kook's LT1 long tubes finally arrived!! Pics inside
Well they were supposed to arrive last thursday, but the driver couldnt find my house so it was rescheduled to today. These are the stainless steel 1 3/4" stepped to 1 7/8" primaries with a 3" collector and emissions. Also included is their 3" ORY. In the 4th pic of the collector, that is all little cardboard debris from shipping.

The headers look great but I'm a little confused on why the large 1 7/8" primaries that go into a single 3" pipe on the y-pipe. Seems like it defeats the purpose. Also, do they offer the headers coated?

As of right now the setup is going to be on a mostly stock 94 LT1. I have the stock cat-back exhaust piping with a flowmaster muffler welded in place of the stock one. I'm sure I'll get a few replies telling me that's too much exhaust flow for a stock LT1, but I plan on doing some AFR heads and a big solid roller along with some nitrous in a few months so I wanted to get the right headers first time around. The restrictive stock piping with the flowmaster muffler will help create some backpressure (I hope??) so I don't lose too much low end TQ. The stainless steel longtubes stepped to 1 7/8" from Kooks are $868 and the y-pipe was $220. Horsepower Engineering had a free shipping special so total was $1088...ouch. I purchase only the best products available and I am positive I will not be dissapointed. The word from Kook's is that you can replace all the spark plugs from the top, so it SHOULD reduce times to about 20 mins or less. Install will be done partyly tomorrow and Thursday. I will have updates and install pics when finished.
EDIT turbo6 I figured that 3 1/2" collectors would be too much, and I do not want a true dual exhaust..dual cutouts will also be installed when I have the y-pipe welded up. And yes, they offer these headers coated.

In my mind, I was thinking that a dual 3" y-pipe into a 4" collector would work better. Do the 3 1/2" collectors exit into 3 1/2" pipes in the y-pipe? I think the 3" collectors are plenty big enough but you cut flow in half as you enter the catback and for such a large header I would think that you might lose some of the gains due to this. Either way they are nice headers and I'd be interested in seeing someone do a back to back test of them comparing them to the standard Hooker/Jet Hot 1 3/4" longtubes.
