Labor prices for heads/cam?

How much on average is the labor on heads/cam?. shops around my area charge around 70-80 per hour.

haha ya right...maby if the LT1 is not in the engine bay. These engines are PITAS to work on and shops know it too... A few shops around me wanted near 1600 just for head gasket swamp. I assume a cam would be about 500 more just in labor. Probably looking at $2200+ in just labor

Book time for the R+R heads is around 15 hours, plus another 6 for the cam. At 70 an hour it should be ~1500 for just labor.

I'm not saying I dont belive you, I'm saying that since he is your 'friend' you are obviously getting a discount, otherwise thats crazy. I'd def pay 1k for heads cam install...considering opportunity cost of taking a few days off its probably worth it. But since no one else is going to get that kind of price especially the OP it doesnt apply.

A friend and I have a small shop on the side and build about 2-4 motors a year and a standard build for us is 650 with you supplying all the parts. People in my area still complain about our prices when big shops 20 minutes away charge 1500. I would do heads and cam swaps every weekend for 800-1000.
