LE1 dyno results
Yesterday I went to ThunderRacing and got my new LE1 install dynoed
I pulled 383.03 hp / 360.82 tq
It peaked around 6150 rpm
I did not think this was too bad for an engine with 80k miles
Conditions: 61.86F, 30.52 in-Hg, Humidity 26%, SAE 0.94
My uncorrected was 404 hp
With the heads, cam, and electric water pump i gained about 99 horsepower from my baseline of 284 hp last summer
The LE1 package is a Great deal, and Lloyd is wonderful to work with. I can't say enough good things about the quality of his work and his customer service. I would recommend this package to anyone who wants a nice streetable and cheap solution. I really wish I would have gone with the LE2 though.
The WOT tuning by PCMforLess was right on, my Air/fuel was nearly on the line the whole run. Bryan also gave me great customer service and helped me when I ran into trouble with the CPS
I will post the dyno graph once i get it scanned, and Hopefully i will be visiting the track next saturday to see what it can do

Dam good numbers, peaks right where I wanted it to as well! I'm sure the TQ curve is nice and fat the whole time too.
Does it drive like you wanted it too? That cam probably looks a little crazy when you get it, but drives better than you thought.
Not bad for a $1200 or so package. Last time I looked that was the best bang for the buck out there.

I believe my mod prices are like:
LE1 Heads were like 1000 + core (larger valves)
cam 350
retune 50
Rockers, waterpump, pushrods, gaskets, bolts, etc 800
gm guideplates and banjo bolts 50
ebay 52mm throttle body 160
New mods = $2400
old mods:
Delteq 500
headers 600
fuel pump 120
catback 280
CAI 150 (ebay moroso)
Old mods = $1650
Total mods = $4050
car = $10500 (may 2005 at 42k miles)
Total car+mods = $16,350
which is around what a 00-01 ls1 was going for back then including tax
The more I think about it, i really feel like I should part it back out, and get an LS1 and keep it forever. Im worried about the LT1 market drying up in the next couple years as the new Camaro comes out and the LT1 becomes 3 generations old. I really dont see myself coming out cheaper If i swap an ls1/ls2 into this car. This is kinda what I ment by wanting more and more.
I really wanted to do this because I just enjoy working on the car and doing some hands on learning on the LT1 and engines in particular. Im just ready for another challenge, im not out to win any races.

I was just refferring to Lloyd price vs. others out there.... all the supporting parts add up.
Dam LS1's are getting cheaper to build now, the only issue is some of the cheap CNC heads are pretty much junk and aren't worth the money you spend on them when a Dart casting or a good ported LS6 will stop them.

The torque curve is extremely flat,
It drives pretty good in the city, but it is no fun in traffic. Also, it is probably 2 or 3 times louder than just longtubes and no cats.
On the highway it is AMAZING. It got up to speed much faster, yet it was smooth as stock 1500 rpm at 70mph. I got nearly the same mileage on the highway than before, and feels just as sure footed even in rain at 75mph
I plan on driving it for nearly all my highway trips from now on. I still got about 6 mpg better than my Jeep Cherokee on the highway, while making more than twice the horsepower.

That's bad ***! Almost any cam is going to suck to drive in bad traffic, the only trade off is less power for that. I'm happy that it works so well on the highway, that's always a goal for a cam that's a driver all the time. I know I like to get on the highway plug in the cruise at 80mph and just go.

Post the graph if you get a chance. I would like to see the HP and TQ curves.
You could get some 3" true duals with bullets and turn downs if you do not mind a lil more noise. That would probably get you another 10 RWHP/RWTQ right there.
A ported intake would be next step. Maybe get 8-10 RWHP from that also.
You could end up REAL close to 400 RWHP and still have the drivability you have now with these mods. Very few people making those #'s with a mid/low 220 duration cam and a TQ curve like yours.

What brand and length of bullets would you recommend?
Would those magnaflow 4x9 mufflers work just as well?
I also have the rockers tightened 1/2 turn past 0 lash, I think I could loosen them up a bit to gain a few hp.
Would a Summit 58mm Throttle body help also?
I am really itching for that 400 mark

If your not too happy with a really loud exhaust setup then you might want to consider 2.5" duals. I've heard some 3" setups that are really, really loud, but when i had my 2.5'' x-pipe setup with no mufflers it wasnt any louder than a cutout or open borla. the plus side of 2.5" duals is a little bit more clearance if you have to go over bumps or steep driveways. I dont know why but the 3" duals sound very loud. on the plus side a H/C LT1 sounds wicked through duals and even better through a 3" setup. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Would the stock fuel pump and injectors be capable of supporting the power you're making? I ask because I see you have aftermarket injectors and fuel pump, but the fuel pump you had done prior to the heads. Did your old fuel pump die or was this in preparation for what you have now? I ask casue I will probably be picking up a set of LE1 heads this fall and I'm just curious what fuel system upgrades will be needed.
