LE2 355 finnaly finished

Got it together yesterday but the battery was dead. Charged the battery and it started on the first crank! don't know why it did though... anyhow it has a little big of valvtrain noise i think. I dont know how loud it should be being a new motor and never haveing RR's installed.

Another problem i have... it was running and quit. Didnt make any strange noise. (still on stock tune) so i thought thats nothing out of the ordinary, i was looking around at the smoke (from chemicals on the block/exhaust) and i noticed more smoke coming out after it died. Looked and one of my wires out of my wiring harness was glowing. So we unhooked the battery. It burnt the plastic off of the wire but i dont know if it burnt anything else. Tomorrow i'll have to go and trace where it goes, it probably just grounded out on something.

When I was attempting to start it, it was acting like the starter was stuck or something. When you turn the key it barely turns the motor and the car shakes a little??

Ill have more to post im kinda dazed and confused right now from it actually starting up.

Might be a loose or dirty wire on the starter. i had that problem a while back.

I installed CC promag RR's this weekend and I think they are very quiet.
I can hear faint ticking coming from the valve covers.
I have read that some are louder than others.

Hallbilly, make sure your rockers are adjusted correctly. It makes a big difference if they are. Plus don't baby it once you think it's break in time. Beat on it and get those rings to seat. Keep us up dated on your progress, I'm sure you will be very happy with your LE2.

Awesome man!! I hope you put down good numbers like all the other ones!

I'm curious what that wire goes to?

Did you increase the compression at all? A possibility is that the stock starter is having trouble turning an engine with higher compression.

Yes, I did bump the compression up to about 11.8 static. Is it possible that the wire was going to the starter. It had to be something that should not have been grounded out. Could have been something that was going to need fixed whether or not it got rebuilt.

I know this sounds foolish but how many wires should go to your starter? I know there is the main power wire, and that little skinny one in the middle. Anything else? It's been like 8 months since i took mine off!

just two starter wires...and my rockers when they were adjusted correctly made little to no noise...the polylocks are very tricky to tighten correctly

Re: LE2 355 finnaly finished

guess i found my problem... i may have three wires on the starter... wonder where the other one goes!? they (the small ones) were both about the same size and almost hanging in the same exact spot (which is not the best method for figuring which wire goes where!) man im an idiot!

Ok, so how loud should the valve train be? Its not extremely noisy, but its enough to make you think..

It's going to be noiser than stock. Going to zero lash/preload helps it a lot.

Re: LE2 355 finnaly finished

Got them adjusted to 0 lash today... thanks Bret. But now my problem is the wires. One wire that is supposed to be on the starter and one that is not supposed to be on the starter... both fried... I will try to find a good part to see what color they are tomorrow. I don't know where the extra wire could have gone to? Is it possible that it was a ground that was hooked up to the same spot as the solenoid wire?

Bret

So, are you saying that zero lash will be quieter than "some" preload?? Or am I misunderstanding you?
