LE3 with 3.73's?
Hello, been awhile since I have posted here. Been having fun with my turbo van see here: http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=436752
A little back history...
My 96 Z28 snapped a driveshaft, put a hole in my driveshaft tunnel and busted the case on my T56 right before I got deployed to Iraq last time (2004), and I even have a Spohn Tq arm with DS loop I was pretty pissed cause thats the 2nd T56 I have went through, it made me sick and I proceded to build my turbo mini van and have had a blast with it while my camaro sits in my yard for the last 2 years.
Now I am back over here again, and looking through Cz28.com I wanna get my camaro back on the road. I have been reading great stuff about the LE3 head/cam combo. I have 4.10's in my car as it sits, I know I am going to have to inspect the rear end when I get back anyways and if they are bad I was thinking of going to 3.73's. Reason is, through the traps on the N2O I run out of gear in 4th and I either have to shift into 5th about 100' before the traps or hold it to the boards with the autometer pro-shift lite blazing in my face for a few seconds(light set at 6200), this is with 275-40-17 Firehawk SZ50. I figure 3.73s would be a perfect fix for this.
Now with the combination of the LE3 head/cam combo and the juice I wonder will I still run out of gear on the N2O? I am pretty sure I would run out of gear with just the 4.10's and LE3 no bottle.
I have been saving some cash and I have about 9 months till I get back, I plan to get a LE3 head cam and fixins, a fairly stout T56, and a new DS and some larger brakes. I eventually want to go with a PTS turbo system, but this should sate my desires for awhile and be a fun car to drive, well almost as fun as my van
Thanks for your time,
Jeff

Jeff,
The lower gear or larger diameter tire will help you on N2O, but the added power of the LE package is going to change what you are doing now. I'd look at the LE2 N2O package. We do have a specific N2O cam if you are spraying a lot and since you are on a stock bottom end that might be the best way to go compared to a LE3 setup.

also note that shifting a LE3 at 6200 rpms is like granny shifting, if you do a H/C swap your gonna need to upgrade your entire valve train which will allow you to run easily up to 6500-6700. So I would keep the 4:10's and see were your rpms are with the new setup. I know there is a few guys on here that LOVE the 4:10's

I am not a big N2O user, I mean its fun and all but if I can make the same power NA its all the better to me, and I am kind of trying to get away from it. I want the better heads and cam ( I fell in love the GM847 cam, I know the LE cam is better). I am aiming for 420RWHP, I am not sure that a LE2 will get me that. I've got most of the hardware to support it and will buy what I dont have when I get back. If it blows, then thats more the reason for me to do a turbo rebuild on the motor, and the heads will flow great for a turbo...

It depends if you want it to run real good on the track. If you look at the guys cutting good 60fts on m6 cars they all have big gears. Run the 4.10 with stock size tires for na and run a taller tire for N20. A cam the le3 size range wants to rev to 6700-6800rpms, another reason for a 4.10 gear. You also said you dont want to use n20 that much any more. 4.10's

Thanks for the insight guys. I am leaning towards sticking with the 4.10's, but, one more question, you think the 3.73s will MPH more and be more manageable on the street? I street race more than I hit the strip, and I would rather MPH than ET.
Thanks again,
Jeff
