A little help on upgrading for some speed!

Okay, my car has got the standard intake and exhaust, but its time to make it fast! So what is the best things to do to my z28 to make it better then the next one? And of course, im on a budget, so the best bang for the buck is what im looking for. Some specifics would be nice! Name brands, cost, ect i would appreciate! thanks for your input!

Well without knowing the trans. I would say (if a4) vig3200, cutout, relocation brackets, box off and install poly bushings in trailing arms/pan hard rod, 3.73, ET drag radials, a hot cam kit, and a tune. Volva mid 12's at ~108-110. This is assuming you have headers already.

Re: A little help on upgrading for some speed!

Lower control arms 110.00
Panhard rod 100.00
Electric water pump 200.00
Underdrive crank pulley 125.00
Mail-order PCM tune 150.00-200.00
High-stall converter 500.00-800.00
Hot-Cam kit 525.00
Relocation brackets 65.00
Cutout 190.00

As for brands, there are so many too list....You are pretty safe with the supporting vendors on this website, they carry parts from the top-names.

Ok a couple things are wrong in this post
LCA= cost of bushings + labor to box off= $50
PHR= cost of bushings + labor to box off= $50
E-WP= $140
Crank pulley ASP 34%= $ 140
Mail order PCM tune= contact madz28.com or pcmforless.com on price (depends on year/aplication)
Vig3200 NEW $700 (can get cheaper used)
Hot cam kit= call DAL for $ (do a search) I would guess ~$400-450
Relocation brackets= $80 with install (weld in style)
Cutout= $35 from summit for 3" cutout with labor maybe $65

Re: A little help on upgrading for some speed!

Get long tube headers ( Pace Setters, 400$ Coated, 300$ not coated)
ORY (125$)
Good Cat Back ( Hooker, Magnaflow, etc. 300$)
CAI ( I really like my lingenfelter, it seems every bit as nice as the K&N FIPK, and it comes with an K&N filter that is even bigger than the one with the K&N kit ... 160$)( Way cheaper too )
Throttle Body Bypass ( 2$)
And the suspension mods everyone stated already.

You would see pointless gains is camming a car with a stock intake and exhaust. Stock manifolds on LT1s are pretty much junk. You need to get the motor breathing better before you buy anything too serious. Do the basic bolt ons first.

DONT BUY ...
G2 Cold Air Intake, or any of the cheap ones from ebay. No real gain.
Aftermarket Mass Air Flow's ... Its pointless
Aftermarket Throttle Bodies, You dont need one until your making about 100 more horsepower than you are now
And if something seems to good to be true, it is.

If your car is a stick, look into getting a Pro 5.0 Shifter, or equivelent. It makes the shifts feel much more solid and precise.

Something to think about:

Alot of people buy an electric water pump for LT1 cars. Alot of people dont. The pros and cons are that you loose reliability, and it doesnt flow as much after around 4,000 RPMs. However, you get about 8 more horsepower, its flow rates are much better than the stock pump at idle and cruising speeds, and it cleans up under the hood a little bit ( Makes it easier to get to the Opti if you were to remove it... I dont think you would have to pull the water pump if you had an electric one since their smaller.)
