Lock cylinder

Lock cylinder
Ok, if I unlock the car with the remote, I can start my car. If I manually unlock the car with the keys, security light is on and I can't start the car. So I am thinking there may be a problem with the lock cylinder. What all is involved in replacing it, i.e. cylinder, new keys?, wiring harness? And, how much are we talking about to replace this?

I may be wrong, but the lock cylinder is a mechanical mechanism, with a rod connected to the power lock actuator, which moves up and down mechanically,or electrically,to the door lock assembly.Went though this last week(replacement).I think you may have other issues, and would leave the door stuff alone.Do you have an after market alarm system?Previous posts have suggested that this could be a problem. Also, check that the wires connecting to the power door actuator are not fraided from wear, and need some electrical tape around the wires.Hope this helps.(Go to Shoeboxes site for door removal if this is the first time ,and you can see whats happening inside the door.My02)

I appreciate the response; however, I was referring to the lock cylinder on the steering column. Although, I have pondered the idea of something being wrong inside the door. Often wondered if when opening the door with the keys, it should trigger something to disable the security light and allow me to start my car. But as it is now, I unlock with the remote and I'm okay to start. Just makes me go hmmmm and if my remote should ever die on me. Also, it is a stock system, no aftermarket trinkets.
