long tube install

I just finished my long tube install...., it sucked. The y-pipe isnt on yet, just straight headers. Its really loud, but thats the way i wanted it. It took roughly 24 hours, and a trip to chevrolet for a broken oil pressure sender. I managed to put both longtubes in through the top. Gotta weld y-pipe and cutout to the headers on monday.

Did you have stock manifolds prior? I wonder how hard its going to be going from shorties to long tubes?

yeah had stock manifolds, the hardest part for me was getting the stock y-pipe off....could not get the bolts out could not even break the bolts off..so we actaully had to sit there underneath the car with a little dremel tool because the crappy sawzal my friend brought over SUCKED and didn't do anything, but the dremel worked suprisingly well

I did not have my dremel at the time of the long tube install and I had the same problem with the stock y-pipe. I had to use a hack saw

Thats the way it goes, headers are a pain to install. What brand do you have? I am guessing you have Pacesetters since you mentioned you want to weld the y-pipe to the header collectors. I would advise against that in case you ever have to disassemble it in the future. Try using some 3" band clamps instead. They run less then 10 bucks apiece and the seal very well. Taking the stock y-pipe down wasn't fun for me either, especially when I wasn't paying attention when taking down the last of the bolts and the pipe fell hard and cracked me right in the face.

My friend hit those rusted bolts with a 1/2" impact for 5 minutes solid before they came out. It sucked!
